1. One-on-one with Sports Envoy Sam Perkins and Sports Visitor Joseline Kenyi from South Sudan

   

   In November 2012, Sports Diplomacy brought five South Sudanese coaches to the U.S. for a 10-day dynamic people-to-people exchange focused on developing youth basketball programs in the country.

2. Empowering Women and Girls through Sports: When Final Four Is Only the Start

   

   On April 6, the first annual UN International Day of Sport for Development and Peace synced with the midpoint of the U.S. Department of State's 2014 NCAA Women’s Final Four Basketball Program, a flagship multi-nation sports visitor program, administered under the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs’ Empowering Women and Girls through Sports Initiative.

   After years of extensive research and planning, the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs is pleased to announce the launch of our redesigned ECA Bureau and Exchanges websites.

4. U.S. Embassy Launches Academy for Women Entrepreneurs

   SUVA – The United States Ambassador Joseph Cella welcomed over 70 Fijian women entrepreneurs today at the U.S. Embassy to celebrate the launch of the Academy of Women Entrepreneurs (AWE), a program designed to further enhance their business prowess.

5. Pacific Islands Track and Field Delegation Experience the Universal Language of Sports

   

   The U.S. Department of State’s ECA has conducted several track and field programs, but none quite as unique as this most recent one with the Pacific Islands.

6. Silk Road Ultramarathon with Dean Karnazes #Dean525

   Dean Karnazes will run for 525 kilometers over 11 days from Tashkent, Uzbekistan to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan to Almaty, Kazakhstan as part of the Sports Envoy program.

7. The Legacy of Benjamin A. Gilman

   In 2000, two years before he left Congress, Benjamin A. Gilman worked with his colleagues to establish the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program. This program has since provided over 19,000 scholarships to U.S. undergraduate students who receive Federal Pell grants.

8. Professional Fellows Explore Religious Freedom in a Modern Context

   The launch of a new Professional Fellows On-Demand Program titled, “Religious Freedom and Interfaith Dialogue Exchange,” focuses on connecting spiritual and community leaders and building interfaith cooperation in multiple settings.

9. NSLI-Y, Language Learning with U.S. State Department

   

   The NSLI-Y Program is a program that helps American students study abroad to learn foreign languages that are deemed critical by the U.S. government.

10. Belizean Coaches Train to Foster Social Change through Sport

    

    As part of ECA’s International Sports Programming Initiative, Northern Illinois University conducted a two-way exchange between participants from the U.S. and Belize geared towards program administrator training, coach training, and consulting youth sports programs in Belize.
