As part of ECA’s International Sports Programming Initiative, Northern Illinois University conducted a two-way exchange between participants from the U.S. and Belize geared towards program administrator training, coach training, and consulting youth sports programs in Belize. The skills learned by participants in sports clinics and training programs will aid them in creating a more stable and inclusive community. From February 23 - March 2, 2014, Northern Illinois University brought five Belizean coaches and administrators to DeKalb and Chicago, Illinois for an eight-day program designed to train youth coaches to foster youth development and social change through sports and provide an alternative to gang violence. This Sports Grant exchange is part of the U.S. government’s efforts to reach out to youth populations in order to promote growth and a stable democratic government.
