1. Venezuelan Alumnus Develops App to Promote HIV Awareness and Prevention

   Inspired by his International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) volunteering experiences while in the United States, Jhonatan José Rodríguez Parra applied the knowledge and insight he gained to implement new strategies for HIV education and prevention through his organization “Stop VIH” (Spanish acronym for HIV).

   In partnership with the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta, the U.S. State Department sent former NBA legend, Rick Mahorn, and WNBA star, Edna Campbell, to Indonesia.

6. USA Track & Field Legend Jackie Joyner-Kersee Made Great Strides in Jerusalem

   

   Under ECA’s Empowering Women and Girls Through Sports Initiative, three-time Olympic gold medalist Jackie Joyner-Kersee promoted healthy lifestyles and shared lessons on leadership in Jerusalem for this first-ever State Department track and field envoy program.

7. Tony Sanneh and Kate Markgraf Travel to Ethiopia

   

   In coordination with US Soccer, the State Department sent former soccer stars Tony Sanneh and Kate Markgraf to Ethiopia.
