Sharon Gourdji was born in New York City, and raised in Midland, Michigan. She received her B.A. in Mathematics from Columbia University, and then worked for six years in the financial software industry. After returning to graduate school, she received a combined Master’s degree in Applied Economics and Natural Resources and Environment, and a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Michigan. In the environmental field, she has worked on statistical and process-based models that aim to support decision-making in the areas of water resource management, carbon monitoring and agricultural adaptation to climate change. She is currently a post-doc working in the Center for Food Security and the Environment and the School of Earth Sciences at Stanford University.
