Derek Lyons was appointed to the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board in December 2020.

Derek Lyons is the General Counsel and Corporate Secretary at AppHarvest, responsible for all legal and corporate governance matters. Before joining AppHarvest, Mr. Lyons held several positions in the federal government, including Counselor to the President, White House Staff Secretary, and Chief Counsel for the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. In these roles, he provided strategic advice to senior government officials while overseeing teams responsible for the coordination and vetting of official government documents and conducting investigations into governmental and private sector abuses. In addition to his government experience, Mr. Lyons spent several years litigating high-stakes constitutional, regulatory, and commercial matters at Boyden Gray & Associate and Gibson Dunn in Washington, D.C. and also served as a law clerk to Justice Brett Kavanaugh on the D.C. Circuit. He earned his law degree from Harvard Law School and also holds bachelor’s degrees in economics and political science from Duke University.
