"My name is Jessica Gumucio. I go to Davidson College and I will be going to Vladimir for the CLS Russian program. I first started learning Russian my freshman year. My professors did such a great job of teaching the language that I just I fell in love with it. My expectations for the trip I want to be able to express more complex thoughts and have one-on-one conversation with other people from the country."

"I think the critical language scholarship program challenges you academically but also culturally because you're living with a host family in your host country. I enjoyed talking to people who wanted to learn more about Americans and I very much enjoyed talking about my lifestyle especially because I feel I hold a unique perspective from America being a Latina going to college and studying Mathematics and Russian. I would recommend CLS to anyone who has the need to go abroad to study cultures to learn a new language because it opened my eyes. I experienced Russia in a way that I never thought I would experience before and I learned the language and I'm so much more comfortable with it now."
