The inaugural Institute for Design and Public Policy is a partnership between the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The Institute was hosted August 2-8, 2015 on the RISD campus in Providence, RI. The Institute aims to build a cohort of leaders from government, non-profit/NGO and private sectors who will use human-centered design (HCD) principles to address complex public policy issues. Human-centered design is a creative, iterative process that brings the end user into the process, creating a tailored solution with stakeholder buy-in along the way. The Institute is a starting point for a long arc of engagement to bring HCD and design methods into government. Learn more about this and similar initiatives at the Collaboratory.
