   The Aspen Institute’s J. Christopher Stevens Virtual Exchange Initiative has announced thirteen new grants to expand the Initiative’s reach.

2. The U.S. Department of State’s Global Sports Mentoring Program Receives Peace and Sport’s “Diplomacy Action of the Year Award”

   On October 18, the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs’ Sports Diplomacy Division received the prestigious “Diplomacy Action of the Year Award” from Peace and Sport, an NGO based in Monaco devoted to sport for social change, at the organization’s annual forum in Rhodes, Greece.

3. ECA Launches the Step In, Dream Big Campaign to Empower Girls and Women through Sports

   The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) recently launched the “Step In, Dream Big” initiative to level the playing field for girls and women around the world through sports by encouraging them to step into their potential and realize their dreams.

4. International Sports Delegates from Belgium Visit the U.S.

   The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs’ (ECA) Sports Diplomacy Division brought 12 adaptive martial arts coaches and administrators to the U.S. from Belgium for the Sports Visitor Program.

5. American Film Showcase Hosted a Global Virtual Film Screening for Earth Day

   In celebration of Earth Day, American Film Showcase, a film exchange program sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, hosted a virtual film screening of the award-winning documentary Inventing Tomorrow.

6. The IVLP Community and Volunteerism

   Earlier this year, the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) and Meridian International Center, a national program agency, hosted an International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) virtual salon series titled, “Effective Volunteer Engagement during Uncertain Times.”

   Christopher Merrill, Director of the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa, explains the valuable cultural exchanges that take place each year when writers from around the world gather for a semester in Iowa City to discuss and share their craft.

    Senator Fulbright envisioned an educational and cultural exchange program that would connect people and encourage them to learn about each others' cultures and values - that vision became the Fulbright Program.
