Social Entrepreneurship Seminar for Afghan Fulbright Students

Miami University - Oxford, Ohio
September 26 - 30, 2012

More than 60 Afghan students will attend the 2012 Social Entrepreneurship Seminar for Afghan Fulbright Students from September 26 - 30 on the campus of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. The seminar teaches the participants ways to employ entrepreneurial skills to address persistent social problems and advance sustainable social change following their return to Afghanistan.

During the seminar, the students have the opportunity to interact with faculty and practitioners in the social entrepreneurship field and benefit from workshops and networking activities. Students enjoy cultural activities, home stays with local families and a visit to a Cincinnati non-profit food bank to learn how social entrepreneurship has impacted the United States. As the capstone of the seminar, participants conduct case study projects in small groups to develop an innovative project, product or service to solve challenging social problems in Afghanistan. The case study projects focus on developing entrepreneurial skills in key priority areas for Afghanistan, including education, engineering/infrastructure, international relations, public administration and public health.
