1. International Women of Courage 2021 Opening Ceremony

   

   2021 Secretary of State’s International Women of Courage (IWOC) Award. This award honors women who have demonstrated exceptional courage, strength, and leadership in acting to improve the lives of others, from families to communities to countries. Next, the IWOC honorees will participate in International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) Virtual exchanges to connect with American communities, universities, businesses, non-profit organizations, and others. Now in its fifteenth year and conferred by five Secretaries of State since the inception of IWOC, the U.S. Department of State has honored more than 155 International Women of Courage from over 75 countries.

2. A Journey Three Years in the Making

   On July 16, nearly 200 young leaders from Sub-Saharan Africa arrived in the United States, and while it is certainly impressive to bring exchange participants to the United States during a pandemic, their arrival felt particularly special.

3. Nearly 500 Young African Leaders to Attend Mandela Washington Fellowship Alumni Symposium in South Africa

   Building on a decade of success, nearly 500 young African leaders will convene in Boksburg, South Africa from March 12-18 for the 2023 Mandela Washington Fellowship Alumni Symposium.

5. Sawe Creations: Fashioning Care for Cancer Patients in Uganda

   With support from the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) program, Catherine channeled her experience in art and design into a successful fashion business that has transformed her community.

6. Mars: The Coolest Destination for Exchange Students

   

   The ECA Collaboratory, in partnership with NASA’s Digital Learning Network™, Google’s Connected Classrooms Program, and the U.S. Embassies in Buenos Aires and Managua, invite educators and students to the Mission Mars: Virtual Field Trip.

7. TechWomen 2020-2021

   One hundred and eight women leaders in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields from Africa, the Middle East, and South and Central Asia will participate in the virtual TechWomen 2020-2021 exchange program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

9. “Impact of Exchange: Stories from U.S. Exchange Alumni” Photo Exhibition Opening in Portland, Maine

   Starting today in Portland, Maine, there’s a new way to discover everyday life, cross-cultural experiences, and scenery in countries around the world. From August 31 through September 30, the “Impact of Exchange: Stories from U.S. Exchange Alumni” Photo Exhibition is open to transport viewers to locations all over the world, from places like China, Colombia, Moldova, Morocco, and South Korea.

    TechGirls is an international exchange program designed to empower young girls to pursue careers in the science and technology sectors.
