1. U.S. Soccer Coaches Travel to Uganda

   

   The University of Minnesota conducted the International Sports Connection (ISC) program through an International Sports Programming Initiative Grant in Uganda.

2. Martin Puryear Chosen to Represent the United States at Venice Biennale

   The State Department and the Madison Square Park Conservancy are excited to announce that Martin Puryear, an internationally acclaimed American artist, was selected to represent the United States at the Venice Biennale 58th International Art Exhibition in 2019.

3. DanceMotion USA Connects Cultures through Collaborative Dance

   Turkish, American, and Armenian dancers performed a collaborative dance piece at the Brooklyn Academy of Music as part of an ongoing cultural exchange sponsored by the Department of State’s DanceMotion USA program.

4. South African Basketball Coaches Come to the U.S.

   

   From March 8 to 19, 2012, South African coaches met with U.S. sports professionals, held clinics with young American athletes at local schools, participated in an NBA clinic, and engaged in activities focused on team-building and injury prevention in the Washington, D.C., area.

5. Sports Visitors and the Women's NCAA Final Four

   

   Partnering with the NCAA, USA Basketball, and WNBA, the U.S. Department of State led a fast-paced and exciting basketball program surrounding the events of the Women’s NCAA Final Four.

6. South Sudan and Sports Diplomacy: Basketball Coaches from the World’s Newest Nation

   

   Sports Diplomacy brought five coaches to the U.S. from South Sudan for a dynamic people-to-people exchange focused on creating opportunities for young South Sudanese to play basketball.

7. State Department Announces Gilman Top Producing Institutions

   During the academic year 2020-2021, nearly 300 Gilman participating institutions sent nearly 800 recipients to 48 U.S. states, D.C, and Puerto Rico to study or intern abroad, including virtually, in 77 locations around the world.

8. Women's World Cup Initiative

   

   On June 6, 2011, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will launch the Women's World Cup Initiative: Empowering Women and Girls Through Sports, at the Department of State with members of the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team and youth soccer players from around the world.

9. International Women of Courage 2021 Opening Ceremony

   

   2021 Secretary of State’s International Women of Courage (IWOC) Award. This award honors women who have demonstrated exceptional courage, strength, and leadership in acting to improve the lives of others, from families to communities to countries. Next, the IWOC honorees will participate in International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) Virtual exchanges to connect with American communities, universities, businesses, non-profit organizations, and others. Now in its fifteenth year and conferred by five Secretaries of State since the inception of IWOC, the U.S. Department of State has honored more than 155 International Women of Courage from over 75 countries.

10. Colloquium Connects Museum Representatives from Around the World

    From September 29 – October 1, 2014, representatives from nine American museums met with their overseas counterparts in Washington, D.C. during the 2014 Museums Connect Colloquium.
