   On May 9, the U.S. Department of State welcomed 250 Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative (YLAI) fellows to the United States.

   Less than 10% of U.S. students study abroad, and very few of these students are in high school. Yet, studying abroad early builds global competencies such as language and cross-cultural skills, maturity, and clarity about one's post-secondary education and career. 8. Exchange Examines the Culture of Service in the United States

   State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs sponsored a multi-regional project through its International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) to examine the impact of volunteerism on the volunteers themselves and the communities they serve.

   Twenty undergraduate students at American University’s School of International Service designed and piloted their own virtual exchanges with students from Brazil, the Czech Republic, India, Japan, Kenya and Morocco.
