On July 6th, Dean bid the Kyrgyz mountains farewell, but not before having one final adventure. Waking with the rising sun, Dean began his route into the Too Ashuu valley. As he crisscrossed the descending switchbacks, hail began to fall. A runner for all seasons, Dean transitioned into his wet weather running gear and soldiered on.
Even though these roads were built during Soviet times, the blast marks which carved these routes seemed fresh and raw. However, the mountains laugh at the notion of "a long time ago," having towered over our ancestors as they will future generations.
Dean eventually exited the mountain range with Bishkek in his sights, and not a moment too soon. Hours after Dean moved on from the mountain roads, heavy rains created a major avalanche that covered a significant stretch of the highway in rubble. #Dean525
