100,000 Strong in the Americas

In March 2011, President Barack Obama launched “100,000 Strong in the Americas,” an initiative to increase international study in Latin America and the Caribbean. The purpose of “100,000 Strong in the Americas” is to foster region-wide pros­perity through greater international exchange of students, who are our future leaders and innovators.

“Cinco de Mayo marks a great moment in Mexican history — one that ended up shaping the United States as well.”  President Obama began his remarks at the White House reception by recognizing the significance of the historical occasion while also acknowledging new opportunities that will mark a great new moment for all the Americas. “We can honor our past by building an even brighter future together.”
