So, Let’s Talk Jihad, the entire point of it was to make an interactive community where we could have people come together ask questions, get answers, and receive information that was not skewed by the Islamic State or another extremist group.

We started our facebook page in November. And within a month, we had over 5,000 people liking our page and 74,000 people engaging with our posts. One of the things that we knew when we were coming into this project is that we aren’t experts on Islam, or on the Middle East. We, personally, never defined the word jihad on our website. We wanted users to interact with others and see what it meant to them to ask the question and have other people from around the world, around their communities define what jihad means to them.

Because we don’t want an echo chamber, we want controversy and dialogue to take place and that’s exactly what we saw on our social media platforms.

I think Let’s Talk Jihad has the potential to exponentially grow, with the proper funding and the proper time. We’ve already seen people react positively to it. It was kind of like a test-run for us.   We had people come to us, thank us. And, I think if we were able to implement something like this on an even larger scale, I think we would get even more results.
