John Kerry: "Africa can be a beacon for the world.

Dramatic transformations are possible. Africa will be the place of
great growth in this century.

When you empower women
to realize their aspirations, you create
a better future, not for some,
but for all.

Voiceover: The African Women's
Entrepreneurship Program (AWEP)
works with enterprising leaders
to promote business growth,
create better business environments, and
become voices a change in their
communities.

Since it's  launch in July 2010 184 alumna  have created more than 17,000
jobs and established 22 women's
business associations throughout Africa.

This year's program included 29 women, from 25 countries across the continent.

Armelle Kouton: If you are entrepreneur it is in your blood.
Empowering just one women in the village it will help the whole world.
It's like change making, little change
everywhere, when we together it's just a big change.
In Benin right now, 30% of the children suffer from malnutrition.
I'm producing
cookies to help children that are suffering from malnutrition.
African Women Entrepreneur program
I think this is just a great program
that's a given women entrepreneurs
the opportunity to come to America and to learn
how entrepreneurs, they are doing their
business.

Goody Odhiambo:
Women also are key players to the business platform.
I have a retail store in Nairobi,
we have met key players

in the industry and they come from
business sector, the political
sector, we have also met business people
like us and we are able to share on the same
platform we have the same mindset.
Which is a very, very good opportunity that I think Department of State has offered.

Ally Angola:
I am Ally Angola, I am from Windhoek, Namibia.
I am the Managing Director and Founder
of the company called, Leap Holdings.

Bringing people together that's only way
that you can actually share
information and if we didn't have a platform like this
it would have been very difficult to
actually get women from different parts
of the continent just talk in general but how do they how
do they grow themselves as a person to be able to grow their business.

I am sure that what I am going to see here,
it's going to help me and my country.
and it's just going to have impact, not only on my business, but in my community.
