Thanksgiving is an American holiday, it’s about family, food and expressing grateful feelings for all we have in our lives; an experience that does not breach the borders of other cultures. This is an experience to allow our international ambassadors the opportunity to participate in a large cultural tradition here in America. Thanksgiving is not only a historical tradition but it’s an opportunity to learn, grow and share time outside of a classroom or training site setting. Throughout this evening laughter, comfort and grateful feels are abound, mixed with the over indulgence in a traditional Thanksgiving feast. During this experience host families have prepared to time to share the history of the holiday, and how grateful they are to be a part of the global friendship program. In exchange international ambassadors have planned a return of those grateful feelings by preparing speeches dedicated to those host families and their kindness and willingness to share this holiday based in giving. This exchange is not only beneficial to our international participants but to the host families as well.
Our Interns and Trainees will share traditions that closely relate with this event by sharing about holidays in their culture that may mirror American Thanksgiving traditions. This is how the YMCA of the Rockies will celebrate International Education Week.
