Description (no more than 300 words)

The event that I will be hosting is an on-campus event for International Education Week, a U.S Department of State and U.S. Department of Education initiative. As an English Language Fellow based in Palangka Raya, Indonesia, my goal is to inspire more Indonesians to consider the U.S. as a study abroad destination. Palangka Raya is located in Central Kalimantan, where there is limited exposure to Americans and our education system. There is no Education USA center or American Corner at any university here. I plan to invite all students on campus to learn about U.S university campus life, academic programs, and application procedures. There will be poster boards, fliers, and videos to give students a clear idea of what it would be like to be a student at a U.S university or community college. Participants will learn about school colors, mascots, college sports, and popular mottos. I will also be highlighting government scholarship programs available through Education USA, YSEALI, and Fulbright. Students will be able to ask questions face-to-face and in a question box. They can share their thoughts in a book when they leave the event. I plan to visit the University of Palangka Raya to do an evening event, to reach more students in the city. This evening event will have the same information and activities. My plan is to add an extra day to International Education Week (last day 11/23) because most Indonesian students prefer to have events during the weekend.
