PAS/EdUSA Accra organized events to mark IEW, chalking on the successes of students who have benefited from US higher education and the exciting 13.9% raise in number of Ghanaian students in the United States, earning Ghana # 2 spot in sending students to the US from Sub-Saharan Africa.
The week opened with a TV interview on the national TV (Ghana Broadcasting Company, GBC) with a three panel team made up of our REAC Diane Young, Adviser Bernice Affotey and a beneficiary of EdUSA and recent graduate of City College of New York, Ms. Edwina Pessey. This was followed by a radio interview with the same panel on the national radio (Uniiq FM) to discuss EdUSA services, the benefits of US education and the opportunities available for Ghanaian students to study in US universities and colleges.
We hosted Ms. Sarah Gardner from the University of New Haven and Ms. Grace East, a graduate student at the U of Virginia in information sessions for undergrad and graduates respectively. We particpated in two phone interviews with Oyerepa FM in Kumasi and Radio 360 in Takoradi following the exciting news on Ghana's numbers, carried in a press release by the US Embassy on November 18.
We crowned the week with a TV interview on one of Accra's prominent media houses, Citi TV. PAO Rob Quiroz and Bernice Affotey highlighted how welcoming the US is to international students, especially Ghanaians, EdUSA services and why individuals should patronize EducationUSA.
