79 grassroots leaders and trailblazers from 54 countries around the world arrived in Washington, D.C. to participate in the Community Solutions Program. This four-month-long fellowship provides professional placements in community-based nonprofit, public, and government offices across the United States. Before beginning their placements in one of 29 cities, fellows attended an interactive welcome orientation to develop leadership skills, foster an inclusive environment, and network through peer learning groups and roundtables.
Fellows have demonstrated leadership potential and experience in one of the four thematic areas: environmental issues, tolerance and conflict resolution, transparency and accountability, and women and gender issues. Through this exchange, fellows will develop their skillsets in community development work and complete a practicum at their host organizations.
After their four months in the United States, fellows will complete a six-month Community Action Project with the skills learned during their time at U.S. counterpart institutions. The alumni network of the Community Solutions Program includes over 550 individuals worldwide, who in return have improved the lives of 250,000 people.
