David Ramirez, a 1992 Fulbright alumnus, is a legendary musician in Costa Rica. He founded the Costa Rican Promusica Choral Institute after he received his Masters in Music Direction from California State University during his Fulbright program. In addition to providing an excellent venue for promoting some of the best music in Costa Rica, the Choral Institute offers scholarships to underprivileged, talented youth, and has an excellent track record of placing their graduates in government-funded music teaching positions.

With two decades of triumphs, David Ramirez, aided by Fulbright alumnus Josue Ramirez Palmer, celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Choral Institute with an unforgettable concert at the National Theater. The event featured Josue on piano and vocal soloists from University of Louisville’s Symphony Orchestra Sinfonietta, Josue’s Fulbright alma mater. The concert united musicians from Costa Rica and the United States, and served as an excellent opportunity for eight English Access Microscholarship students to visit the National Theater and learn more about classical music and the shared cultural heritage between the two countries.
