Laura Skandera Trombley was appointed by President Barack Obama in December 2012 to the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. Reappointed in 2014, she was Vice Chair for 2015 and is Chair for 2016.

Trombley serves as the eighth president of The Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens in Huntington, California. She is also a member of the Chief Executives Organization and the Council of Presidents of the Association of Governing Boards. Trombley has written regularly about issues affecting U.S. higher education, contributing to The Chronicle of Higher Education, The Huffington Post, and The Daily Beast. Her scholarly articles have appeared in publications such as American Literary Realism and The Paris Review.

Prior to leading The Huntington, Trombley served 13 years as President of Pitzer College, and worked to raise its national profile and enhance its reputation for academic excellence. Under her leadership, Pitzer College experienced a rise in worldwide recognition and is one of the most selective higher education institutions in the country. Nationally, Pitzer College has been the leader in Fulbright fellowships per 1,000 students for the past ten years.

Trombley is the author of five books, including Mark Twain's Other Woman. She earned her B.A. and M.A. at Pepperdine University and her Ph.D. from the University of Southern California. In 2002, Pepperdine University named Trombley one of its Accomplished Alumni and, in 2013, presented her with an honorary doctorate.
